12th consecutive victory improves record to 19-5

The Moberly Area Comm. College Men’s Basketball Team defeated Missouri State-West Plains 106-87 on Wednesday evening at the Fitzsimmons-John Arena. The Greyhounds stretched a 27-24 margin into a 53-41 halftime lead behind sophomores Alonzo Verge and Sean Miller-Moore. Moberly was never threatened the second half with the lead eventually reaching 32 points. Arizona State signee Alonzo Verge lead the Greyhounds with 33 points and 11 assists while Sean Miller-Moore had 21 points and 9 rebounds. Tahj Small with 11 points and Mike Hood with 10 points rounded out the double figure scoring. Eric Lovett lead MSU-West Plains with 20 points while Calhoun added 17 points.

“Just a tremendous effort by our guys against a very good West Plains club,” said Coach Pat Smith, “Really liked our defensive intensity for the most part and felt we did a great job of sharing the ball. We’re playing very well but must keep eyeing the next level of performance and consistency to get where we need to be. We need to have a fine line between having confidence and having an edge to keep improving.”

Moberly improved to 19-5 overall with a region mark of 5-0 while winning their 12th straight game. Moberly returns to action this Saturday as they host Mineral Area in a Region 16 contest beginning at 7:00 pm.
