Improve to 17-3 overall and 2-0 in Region 16

The Moberly Area Comm. College Men’s Basketball Team overcame a 16 point second half deficit to come back and secure an 80-77 victory over State Fair CC in Sedalia on Wednesday evening. Moberly jumped out to an early 15-5 lead but that was short lived as State Fair came back to gain a 41-31 halftime advantage. After falling behind 59-43 with 13 minutes remaining, Moberly started their comeback. They eventually took the lead on a three pointer by Tyrone Alston with 1 minute remaining. After State Fair tied the game at 75-75, Randy Miller, Jr. hit a three pointer to give the Greyhounds the lead with 28 seconds left. Miller hit two free throws and then the Roadrunners missed a three pointer s as time expired. 6’5” freshman forward Sean Miller-Moore lead Moberly in scoring with 26 points and 15 rebounds, Miller had 17 points(13 the last four minutes of the game) and 6’6” sophomore forward JaQualis Matlock added 13 points. State Fair was lead in scoring by AJ Walker and Tyreek Scott-Grayson with 16 points each, Caleb Coleman added 15 points, Dru Smith scored 12 points and Tim Leavell with 10 points. Moberly improved to 17-3 with the victory and 2-0 in Region 16 play while State Fair dropped to 15-4 and 1-1 in Regional competition.

“Just a great team win,” said Coach Patrick Smith, “ It was a game that we had a hard time developing any offensive rhythm, shot 6 for 25 from three point range, had to pretty much play from behind all night on the road and was truly a victory we just grinded and toughed out. Our players stayed in the moment and made enough plays to get it done against a very good State Fair Team. With that said, we now have three days to get better and get ready to play against another very good team in Mineral Area. We’re still in the transition stage of changing a couple of things and it’s the time of year we’ve got to maximize each day.”

Moberly returns to action Saturday night against Mineral Area with game time at 7:00 pm.
