Greyhounds secure #1 seed in Region
The 14th ranked Moberly Area Comm. College Greyhounds defeated the State Fair CC Roadrunners 81-61 on Saturday evening in Sedala. After a close first 10 minutes that saw MACC lead 11-10, Moberly went on a run to end the first half to lead 37-23 at the half. Moberly enjoyed a comfortable margin for the most of the second half before State Fair did cut the lead to 62-51 with 8 minutes remaining. The Greyhounds then went on a 7-0 run sparked by Mar’Qywell Jackson to put the game away. Sophomore wing Brandon Better lead Moberly in scoring with 25 points (6-12 from three point range) while Jackson scored 13 points and Delfincko Bogan added 12. Amir Smith lead State Fair in scoring with 16 points while Vonny Irvin added 12.
Moberly improved to 25-3 with the victory and 6-1 in Region 16 while State Fair fell to 11-16 and 0-7. Moberly gained the top seed in the Region 16 upcoming tournament.
“I thought our defensive performance was pretty solid,” said Coach Patrick Smith, “State Fair is a very talented offensive team and we did a decent job of stringing together stops. Offensively we did enough, thought our depth was a huge factor. With that said, we will have to play State Fair again in the regional tournament and they are a very dangerous team who’s playing better.”
