MACC improves to 26-4 with MCCAC Championship
The Moberly Area CC Greyhounds Men’s Basketball Team defeated the Missouri State-West Plains Grizzlies 95-74 on the road Friday evening. Moberly jumped out to an early 21-11 lead they eventually extended to 39-26 at the half. West Plains got within 60-50 during the second half but Moberly pushed the lead back up to 18 points and were never threatened again. Sophomore wing Brandon Better had a game high 33 points with 6 made treys while Dallas Morgan,Leonard Harper-Baker and Delfincko Bogan all had 9 points each.
Moberly improved to 26-4 on the year and 7-1 in Region 16 play and also clinched outright the MCCAC Conference Chamionship with the victory in their first season in the conference. They had previously clinched the number one seed for the upcoming Region 16 Tournament. Missouri State-West Plains dropped to 12-15 with the loss and 2-6 in regional competition.
“I was pleased with how our players approached the game with a lot riding on the line,” said Coach Patrick Smith, “It is important what you do start to finish of the season and to capture the regular season Region 16 title and #1 seed, win the MCCAC Championship and go 26-4 against a very challenging schedule, I’m very proud of our team and staff. However, now it’s onto season #3 which is the post-season and we have a lot left to accomplish and we must redirect our goals. However, our basic concepts never change in terms of progressing as a team this week and be playing our best basketball entering what is going to be a tremendously competitive regional tournament.”
Moberly will play State Fair in the semi-finals of the Region 16 Tournament on Friday, March 3 at Lincoln University in Jefferson City.
