Defending Regional Champs add 3 guards, Division one Transfer post

The Moberly Area Comm. College Men’s Basketball Team have announced the signing of four newcomers to NJCAA Letter-of- Intents for the 2016-17 school year. The Greyhounds signed the following players; Dietrich Cole(6’9” sophomore post; Detroit, Michigan/Jacksonville State University); Dallas Morgan(6’1”, 190 lb. guard from Metamora High School; Peoria Illinois); Jabari Antwine(6’1 point guard; Chicago, Illinois/Black Hawk East College) and Trey Owens(6’2’ freshman wing; Peoria, Illinois);

Cole is transferring from OVC school Jacksonville State University in Alabama where he medically redshirted this past season recovering from knee surgery. He played as a freshman during the 2014-15 season where he averaged 1.5 ppg and 1.3 rebounds per contest. He played his high school ball at East English Village Prep in Detroit Michigan where he posted averages of 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocked shots per game.

Morgan was one of the better guards in Central Illinois as he lead Metamora High School to a 28-2 record while averaging 15 ppg and 5 assists with a season high of 30 points in a sectional finals loss to Manual High School. Morgan will be expected to play both guard spots for the Hounds with both playmaking and scoring abilities.

Antwine played at Black Hawk East College in Kewanee, Illinois this past season and averaged 11 and 6 assists per game in leading their team to a 26-7 record. He was named 1 st team All Conference while his team was continually ranked in the NJCAA Division Top 20 throughout the season. He played his high school ball at traditional powerhouse Chicago King High School where he aveaged 18 points per game his senior season.

Owens has been out of school for four years while continuing to focus on basketball. This past season, he played in the Peoria Men’s League which featured former Division I and other college players. Owens averaged 37 points per game in the league with three games over 50 points.

“We feel like, with our returnees included, that this is a very good start to our recruiting efforts. Our goal is to defend our regional title and have a chance to be even better than we were this past season. That’s going to be tough, with the excellent players we lost, but feel a very good recruiting year will hopefully put us in that position. Cole is a big man who has very good skills and shot blocking ability, Morgan is a very strong guard who can run a team and score, Antwine has already demonstrated college success and Owens has great offensive potential. Now with that said, we have approximately 6 scholarships remaining and will be as good as our recruiting efforts. Our returnees have worked hard this spring to hopefully be a strong returning group.”

Moberly Area Comm. College is coming off a 2014-15 season in which they compiled a 25-11 record, won the Region 16 championship, was District IV champs and defeated Indian Hills in the NJCAA National Tournament to make the sweet 16.
