Three incoming freshman join Greyhounds

4/17/2020
The Moberly Area Community College Men’s Basketball Team has signed three players to NJCAA Letter-of-Intents for the 2020-21 school year. Joining Moberly will be 6’4”, 200 lb. Guard Jahvon Smith from Miami, Florida; 5’10” guard Tyren Moore from Louisville, Ky; and 6’4” wing Moory Woods from Alton, Illinois. Smith played at Miami Norland High School where he averaged 12.6 points per game, 5.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game this past season. He lead his team to Florida 5A State Tournament and was selected to represent South Florida in the Florida All Star Game. “Smith’s ability to score the ball makes him a hot commodity as he can get into a groove where he can knock down 5 or 6 threes in a row” said Shun Williams of On The Radar Hoops.

Moore is one of the top rated high school players in the State of Kentucky playing for Louisville Male High School. He lead his team to a 31-4 record this past season and the #1 ranking in the State. Moore was chosen as the 7th Region Player of the Year, 1st Team All State and a finalist for Mr. Basketball while averaging 17.9 points per game, 4.1 rebounds and hitting 97 three’s at 49 percent. He ended his high school career with 1529 points.

Woods had a tremendous high school career at Alton High School. As a senior he averaged 13 ppg, 7 rebounds and 4.3 assists while being named First Team All Southwestern Conference. He was also named as one of the top 50 players in the State of Illinois.

“We are so pleased to have these three players join our program for next season,” said Coach Pat Smith, We obviously lose some real good players from this past season so it’s great to get our recruiting off to such a good start. Smith is an explosive guard who played against really good competition and can play multiple positions, just a really good all around player. Moore can just flat score the ball in a variety of ways, is a tremendous shooter who played for one of the best high school programs in the nation. Woods is a very versatile player who just does a lot of things really well and really knows how to play. One thing we really look for in recruits is versatility along with scoring ability and feel these three incoming Greyhounds definitely fill those roles along with all being from winning programs.”

Moberly finished 27-6 this past season while winning the Region 16 Tournament Championship, Midwest District Champs, Co-MCCAC Title, Co NJCAA Region 16 regular season champs, #17 final NJCAA National Ranking and berth in the NJCAA National Tournament.
