6/23/2018
The Moberly Area Comm. College Men’s Basketball Program has added two signees to their recruiting class for the 2018-19 school year. Joining the Greyhounds are 6’8”, 260 sophomore post Isaiah Simpson and 6’8”, 260 lb. incoming freshman Riny Lual. Simpson is from Chester, Virginia and a transferring from NCAA Division USC Upstate. As a senior at John Marshall High School he averaged 14 points and 9 rebounds per game during his senior season. He was named All Conference and played in the 804 All Star Game after helping lead John Marshall to the Class AAA quarterfinals. Simpson also started as quarterback for his high school football team and was named First Team All Conference as a junior. As a freshman at USC Upstate this past season he aveaged 3 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.

Lual is a very athletic post from Sudan who played prep ball this past season at First Love Academy in Washington, Pennysylvania. During his one year at First Love he averaged 10.5 points per game, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks per game. First Love finished with over 20 wins playing the best prep programs on the East Coast.

“We are very excited to have these two young men join our program,” said Coach Patrick Smith, “Isaiah brings a tremendous low post scoring presence to our team. Really good around the basket but can also step out and shoot the perimeter shot. We’ve already heard from lots of Division I programs about him. Lual just has great potential with his length, athleticism and he’s already a major shot blocker. Also a good shooter, can’t wait to watch his progression the next year.”

Smith stated he expected the Greyhounds to sign at least one more player for the upcoming season. Moberly finished 26-5 this past season with championships in the Highland Invitational, MCCAC Conference and Region 16 regular season champs along with finishing ranked #11 in final NJCAA poll.
