Defeat Highland(IL.), lose to Indian Hills to drop to 9-1

11/27/2017
The Moberly Area Community College Men’s Basketball team split their two games in the Midwest Bone and Joints Classic this past weekend at the Fitzsimmons-John Arena. The Greyhounds defeated Highland CC(Ill.) on Friday evening by the score of 87-74 before losing on Saturday in the classic finale to Indian Hills 92-60 in a battle of pre-season ranked teams.

MOBERLY 87, HIGHLAND 74
Moberly jumped out to an early 25-7 lead against Highland and lead 39-29 at the half. Moberly kept a comfortable margin throughout the second half and eventually lead by 20 points. MACC was lead in scoring by JaQualis Matlock with 19 points and 14 rebounds, Dallas Morgan added 17 points(5 made threes), Alonzo Verge had 15 points and 6 assists, JJ Matthews had 14 points and 11 rebounds while Sean Miller-Moore added 11 points. Josh Carter and Berisic lead Highland in scoring with 16 points each. Highland dropped to 4-4 on the season.

INDIAN HILLS 92, MOBERLY 60
After coming back in the first half from a 14 point deficit to only trail 34-37 at the half, Moberly saw Indian Hills come out and go on a 26-6 run to start the 2nd half on the way to an easy victory in the final game of the classic. Moberly was lead in scoring by freshmen Alonzo Verge and Sean Miller-Moore with 12 points each while seeing their record drop to 9-1 on the season. Antonio Williams lead Indian Hills in scoring with 21 points, Woldetensae and Aurreeoechun both had 15 points and Murrell added 14 points as IHCC improved to 8-0 on the season.

“This was definitely a game combining how bad we were and how good an outstanding Indian Hills team was,” said Coach Patrick Smith, “We made a good comeback at the end of the first half, but the second half really saw us lose our way and completely get away from how we needed to play and compete in this contest. Without a doubt, the best team we’ve seen all season so we need to learn from this game and move on as we get ready to complete our first semester. With 10 games in 25 days, just really glad we have some practice time to improve both individually and collectively and make needed revisions. As bad as this game was, it does not define our season but was a tremendous wake-up call on what we have to do to compete at this level. What we want to accomplish lies ahead.”
