Newcomers add size, athleticism, scoring

The Moberly Area Comm. College Men’s Basketball Team has added three signees to their squad for the 2020-21 season. Joining the Greyhounds are 6’2” guard Antoine Bloxton from Chicago, Illinois; 6’8” forward Armond Williams from East St. Louis, Illinois; and 6’4” wing Aaron Brookins from St. Louis, Missouri. Bloxton enjoyed a stellar senior season at Bogan High School averaging 26 points per game, 5 steals, 4 rebounds and 4 assists per game. He was named 1st Team All State(Illinois), 1st Team All City and 1st Team All Conference(Red South/Central). Williams averaged 10 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks for East St. Louis Lincoln HS while being named 2nd Team All Conference for one of the best high school teams in the State. Brookins attended Carnahan High School where he graduated in 2019, averaging 19.4 points per game, 6.8 rebounds while shooting 46% from behind the arc. He played his freshman season at William Woods for MACC Assistant Coach James Hays where he played in 22 games, averaged 9.3 points and 3 rebounds per game with a season high 23 points vs. Columbia Collge. Brookins made 44 threes at 39% and sit out this semester at MACC.

“Feel like we improved our team with these three additions at this period of our recruiting process,” said Coach Patrick Smith, “You win with guards and we added two really good ones in Bloxton and Brookins. Bloxton is so good with the ball in his hands as both a scorer and creator for other players, should just thrive in our up tempo pressing style of play. Brookins is just an unbelievable athlete who also is a knockdown shooter, sit out as a redshirt for us this past semester. Williams is very good shot blocker and extremely long, good athlete who’s offensive is improving and just has great potential. Just so pleased to add these three players; say this all the time, we lose some really good players but feel like we are signing to reload and not rebuild. We currently have four spots open and while I really like our recruiting to this point, always feel we are going to be as good as the last players we sign. Alonzo Verge, Sean Miller-Moore, Tahj Small, JaQualis Matlock and Dusan Mahorcic are all players we have signed in the past from mid summer on.”

Moberly went 27-6 this past season while winning the NJCAA Region 16 Tournament, Midwest District Championship (repeating in both), qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament, Co MCCAC Champs and had a final #17 National Ranking.
